Career Awareness Seminar for Class VIII Students
Indian School Muscat conducted a Career Awareness Seminar for the
students of Std 8 on 26th April 2008 in order
to create awareness among the students about different
careers and to make career planning easier before
students move on to senior school.
In his welcome address, the Principal, Mr.
Achuthan Madhav, emphasized that teachers have the
ability to influence children and they nurture their
talents and care
for the future of their students. “Children have their
own fields. Actual crystallization takes place when they
reach Std 8, and this continues through Stds 11 and 12.
Parents should motivate their children 5 years ahead,”
he said.
In his message to the students he said, “Think what you want to become
5 years from now. Your parents and teachers will support
you.”
Introducing the speakers of the programme,
Mr.
N.C.
Vijayachandra, Vice Principal of the Middle Section,
said that choosing a career is one of
the most difficult decisions. “Globalization has
opened new vistas, offering wider choices in careers.
Students get lost and confused in the choice of a
career, and hence parents and teachers play an important
role in helping and guiding the child in doing so,” he
said, adding that “If we do not successfully plan our
career, we may be monetarily successful, but we may not
get the job satisfaction.”

century. She highlighted key areas that offered upcoming

“Do we have what it takes to take the rigours of a
job? In selecting a career, one needs to look at various
factors such as skills required, universities offering
these careers, cost of education, employment
opportunities, salary expectations and future growth.
Then he ran through the various career opportunities
available under these streams.
Dr. Jitendra Sharma, HOD, Chemistry, Master Mind

within the purview of Biology, which include Medicine,
Para Medicine and applied areas. He touched upon the

their children to choose a particular option not to

let them steer their ship,” he said.
