Annual Athletic Meet & Drill Display
The Red House continued their eight-year reign
over the Indian School Muscat overall championship by
retaining the Cock House Trophy at the end of a well attended
32nd annual Sports Day at the school grounds last
Thursday (
24/01/2008
).
The champion house also added silverware to their
already overcrowded cupboard when they scooped the coveted
trophy for the March Past.
To add to their glory was Class XII pupil Robson Sam
Varghese, who was felicitated for being an outstanding
sportsperson. Robson, the outstanding red house athlete has
represented the school at the CBSE national games in four
disciplines basketball, volleyball, football and badminton
for five years.
His Excellency Mr. Anil Wadhwa, the Ambassador of India
to the Sultanate of Oman, the guest of honour, formally
declared open the 32nd annual athletic meet and drill display
- an important event in the school calendar.
The Sports Coordinator, Neha Jacob took the oath
on behalf of the school.
The annual event recognises and rewards the four Houses
for their team effort in sports, athletics and various
competitions such as quiz, debate, dramatics etc.
Karan Negi of Class VIII, winner of the bronze medal in
the CBSE Nationals for Tennis held recently at

, presented a bouquet to the Chief Guest. Nikita Chengappa, Head Girl,
welcomed the gathering.
The March Past, one of the prestigious events of the
Sports Meet, then followed with its military pomp, precision
and coordination. It was led by Varun Arora, Head Boy, Nikita
Chengappa, Head Girl, and the members of the Students
Council. They were followed by the four houses which marched
majestically in their distinct colours Red, Green, Blue
and Yellow led by their Captains Shrey Wilson, S. Vishvesh
Jayanth, Anand Nagarajan and Sheen Jacob respectively, in the
order of the previous years positions. The School Band
comprising 36 students, led by Mr. Permanand, played the
marching tune Trumpet
Voluntary a confluence of the pianica, the trumpet,
the tenor trombone, the French horns, the side-drums, the
bass-drums and Euphonium - adding splendour to the march past.
14 exciting inter - house athletic events in various
categories were then held on the occasion. Some of these
participants had represented ISM at the National and Gulf
Zonal Athletic Meets. The cheers from the spectators added to
the spurt of speed that made the races really spectacular. The
winners of these athletic events were honoured with medals by
the Chief Guest.
The impressive Drill Display was presented by 2500
students with different accessories. The Carnival
drill a fusion of bharatnatyam, modern dance,
aerobics, carefree butterflies fluttering about, cheerleaders
galore, hoopla performer and a clown created a pulsating
atmosphere of joy and delight. The hoops
drill presented a perfect environ to practise yoga with
the rising orb and the gentle waves of morn, which is the most
exquisite setting to seek the serenity within through the
simple asanas.
About 550 students of Class V exercised their tender
limbs and brought out the grace and fluidity, the strength and
vigour that the human body is endowed with. These children
dressed in white displayed their rhythmic and synchronized
moves. The girls of Classes IX and XI performed the indigenous
dance form, Lazium
drill to the backdrop of vibrant music. All the drills
clearly showcased excellent precision, synchronization,
rhythm, movement and formation. The accessories and the colour
coordination added to the pomp and pageantry of the occasion.
The showmanship of the entire display was acknowledged with a
series of resounding applause.
Individual
champions in various categories also received their cherished
trophies at the function. The following are the Individual
Champions: Shorya Bist, Red House (Sub-Junior Girls), Rolton
C. Coelho, Green House (Sub-Junior Boys), Aishwarya Ravi, Blue
House (Junior Girls), Sujeervan K. and Aditya Kedari, Red
House (Junior Boys), Arzoo Sattikar, Blue House (Intermediate
Girls), Karan Negi, Red House (Intermediate Boys), Disha Amin,
Green House and Vedha Kumar, Red House (Pre-Senior Girls),
Saikat Dey, Red House (Pre-Senior Boys), Shalaka Pai, Yellow
House (Senior Girls), and Aditya Kurian, Red House (Senior
Boys).
While proposing the Vote of thanks, Varun Arora,
the Head Boy, lauded the dedicated efforts of the staff led by
the Principal, the supporting staff, the enthusiastic students
and their parents. Special kudos was expressed to the Physical
Education Department in making the Meet a memorable one.
