Mr. Edgar Conferred The Highest Honour

In 1973 when Master Ainsley Leonard Edgar received the best student award from the then President of India V.V.Giri, he would have never thought even in his wildest of dreams that another medal would follow after thirty years for being the best teacher in the national level.

Mr. Edgar began his teaching career in 1976 as a senior English Master at St. Paul’s Mission School, Calcutta. He became the Vice Principal of St. Peters, Panjagini in 1985 from where he moved to Indian Embassy School Sana as Principal. After being in Yemen for five years, he went on to Baroda for a short while as Principal of IPCL. He became the Principal of Ideal Indian School, Doha in 1996 and since March this year ISM has the honour of having Mr. Edgar at the helm.

During this period Mr. Edgar served as the Secretary and Chairman of the Council of CBSE affiliated schools in the Gulf.

“If only the real sense of education could be realized by each individual with the guidance of the teacher and carried forward in every field of human activity, the world will be so much a better place to live in,” said the President Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam at a function held to honour 282 teachers from all over the country with national awards on Teachers Day.

Reminding them that there was no profession more important to society than teaching, Dr. Kalam said the aim of the teacher should be to build character, human values, enhance the learning capacity of the children through technology and build their confidence to be innovative and creative to be able to face the competitive future.

Hailing teachers as nation builder, the Prime Minister Manmohan Singh saluted the teachers and the fundamental values of life which they teach. The role of education is to uphold equity and tolerance, he said, adding that “these are all important in a country like ours which has diversities to emerge as a strong nation.”

Lauding the teaching community for their contribution, Human Resource Development Minister Arjun Singh said that teachers were the architects of the nation and they had a great responsibility towards the progress of the country.
