ISM CELEBRATES ITS ANNUAL DAY
The Indian School Muscat celebrated its 32nd
Annual Day on Wednesday, 7th February, 2007 with
an exciting spectacle of musical and histrionic talents of
the students at the school grounds.
His Excellency Shri Ashok Kumar Attri, the Ambassador of
India to the Sultanate of Oman graced the occasion as the
Chief Guest. He was accompanied by his wife Shrimati Usha
Kiran Attri.
High ranking officials of the Indian Embassy, Members of the
Board of Directors of the Indian Schools in the Sultanate of
Oman, the President and members of the Indian School Muscat
Managing Committee, Principals, invitees, students and
parents attended the function.
A guard of honour was presented to the Chief Guest by the
Bharat Scouts and Guides of Indian School Muscat. The
National Anthems of Oman and India were rendered by the
students of Hassan Bin Thabit Preparatory School and Indian
School Muscat. Nikita Chengappa, the Assistant Head Girl and
Vivek Wali, the IT Prodigy presented the Ambassador and his
wife with floral tributes. Ria Raj, Head Girl, welcomed the
distinguished gathering.
His Excellency Shri Ashok Kumar Attri then gifted the
collected works of the first Prime Minister of independent
India, Pandit Jawaharlal Nehru to the school. The Principal
Mr. Ainsley L. Edgar received it on behalf of the school.
Later addressing the gathering, His Excellency Shri Ashok
Kumar Attri, extended heartiest felicitations to His Majesty
Sultan Qaboos bin Said on receiving the prestigious
Jawaharlal Nehru Award for International Understanding. He
emphasized on the inculcation of the values of Pandit
Jawaharlal Nehru. He congratulated the School Managing
Committee, the Principal, teachers, parents and students for
their wonderful contributions to the Indian Community in
Oman. The Chief Guest complimented the students who had won
awards for their achievements. He also advised the students
to work hard to realize their dreams. His Excellency
requested the parents to encourage and support their
children to take active participation in all the school
activities for their all round development. He also
expressed his best wishes to all the students appearing for
Classes X and XII Board examinations in March.
Mr. Ainsley L. Edgar, the Principal in his Annual Report,
highlighted the achievements of the school in academics,
sports and co curricular activities during the academic year
2006 – 2007. He also mentioned about the various workshops
and training programmes which were conducted for the
teachers to enrich their teaching skills. The Principal
lauded the staff for their dedicated service in the all
round development of the students. He expressed his sincere
gratitude to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos bin Said on behalf of
the Indian School Muscat and the parent community of the
school for fostering the growth and development of education
of Indian children in Oman. The Ministry of Education and
the Ministry of Manpower
were also appreciated for their encouragement and support.
Mr. Deepak Bradoo, President of the Indian School Muscat
Managing Committee, expressed his gratitude to His Majesty
Sultan Qaboos bin Said and his government for their
magnanimity towards the Indian community in Oman. He also
appreciated the Principal and the staff for keeping the ISM
flag flying high. The President congratulated the students
for bringing laurels to the school in all fields. He took
great pride in announcing that the new multipurpose hall for
ISM and a new building for the Indian School at Al Seeb were
in progress. The President took note of the fact that
digital teaching and the teaching modules were great help to
the students and teachers of Classes V to X. He stressed on
the importance of discipline among students and advised them
to develop values like tolerance and respect for others.
His Excellency Shri Ashok Kumar Attri presented prizes to
81 students for academic, athletics, games, quiz and
co-curricular activities. The prize winners included the
0.1% of successful candidates in various subjects in the
CBSE examinations held in March 2006, students who had
secured 100% attendance for three consecutive academic years
and special awards to those students who had brought laurels
to school during the year. Mementoes were presented to
members of the staff who had completed ten, twenty and
twenty five years of dedic ated
service to the school. Former members of the School Managing
Committee, who had served the Community through the school,
were a lso
felicitated.
The scintillating cultural programme that followed
represented a tapestry of talent and hard work by the
students and the teachers. 600 students of standard IV began
the evening programme with a melodious welcome song that
took everyone on a nostalgic trip to India, a land of rich
heritage and tradition. They sang in perfect rhythm and
harmony that enchanted the guests.
A group of boys and girls from the Primary, Middle and
Senior Sections of the school danced to A. R. Rehman’s
Vande Mataram. This filled the guests with patriotic
fervour. The orchestras from Hassan Bin Thabit Preparatory
School and Indian School Muscat captivated the audience with
a blend of both Indian and Arabic music.
The superbly choreographed Fusion Dance by five brightly
dressed dancers of ISM stole the evening. The dancers
displayed their heart’s elation to foot tapping music,
moving around in a series of intricate hand and foot
movements.
The school choir kept the audience entertained with
captivating numbers – Jag Apna Angan Hai and Drop in the
Ocean.
A Hindi play titled ‘Ek Nayi Khoj’ presented three
scientists creating a machine to
try to bring the dead back to life,
and it ended with a
wonderful message to follow Mahatma Gandhi’s path of
non-violence and to live together in peace and harmony. The
performers displayed their brilliant histrionic talents and
won the hearts of the guests.
Aijaz Dadarkar, Head Boy, brought the splendid evening to a
close with the Vote of Thanks which was followed by the
School Song. Akhil Ahluwalia and Navati Jain of Class XI
compered the programme.
