The Tata Energy and Resource Institute (TERI) conducts this examination in association with the Ministry of Environment and Forests of India. The main objective of the Green Olympiad is to develop a standard analytical tool to assess students’ comprehension of issues related to the environment, natural resource and sustainable development.

Traditionally Indian School Muscat has been fairing extremely well at the Green Olympiad.  In fact it won the overall championship (TERRAQUIZ)  in 2004.
