Languages and Fine Arts Exhibition  2006

ISM Exhibition a roaring success!

 The Languages, Social Sciences and Fine Arts Exhibition held in the Middle Section of Indian School Muscat on 31st Oct. and 1st Nov. 2006 was a roaring success.

It was inaugurated by the Chief Guest, Mr. Salim Bin Naseer Al Hadhrami, Director General of Employment, Ministry of Manpower, who also went around  the entire exhibition along with the Vice President of the Indian School Muscat Managing Committee, Mr. Rajendra Ved, and other members of the Committee.

 The Chief Guest showed keen interest in the work done by the students and was all praise for the quality and high standard of the exhibition. He commended the hard work put in by the students in preparing excellent exhibits.

 The Exhibition included sections on the five languages taught in the school, i.e. English, Hindi, Arabic, Malayalam and French, and sections on Social Sciences and Art.

 The English section consisted of exhibits in the form of charts, models and games on topics broadly classified under headings like English through the ages, Grammar Kingdom and Fun with words. This section also included activities such as poetry recitation, just a minute, role play and mono-acting.

 The Hindi section consisted of topics such as biographies of poets and writers, various grammar topics, proverbs, idioms, prefix in a novel way and sayings of Great People. It also consisted of a Poets’ Meet. Eradication of Superstition was another attraction of the exhibition.

The Arabic section had various charts and models which gave information about the script, formation of words, structure of sentences, information about Oman and other Arab countries, currencies and coins and Arabic Calligraphy etc. A collection of words which are common in Arabic and Hindi, and which show the long-term interaction between India and the Arab countries, were also displayed at the exhibition.

 In the Malayalam section there were charts related to the growth and development of the  Malayalam language and literature through various ages. A power point presentation gave an awareness of the topography of Kerala as well as its traditional art forms. Kerala’s ancient architecture and indigenous delicacies were also highlighted at the exhibition.

The French section gave the children an opportunity to display their creative skills and explore France with a holistic approach. A vast area was covered touching on almost every aspect of French culture and tradition.

 It included powerpoint presentations done by the children on topics such as art of France, fashion designing, interior decoration, glimpses of some provinces of France and wonders of France. It also included a short movie on Paris. The highlight of the section was a rendering of live songs in French by a few children using the synthesizer and the violin.

 The display area had charts covering French language, literature, sports, culture and art, models of the Eiffel Tower and Le T.G.V. (Train a Grande Vitesse) and games on map of France, neighbours of France, vocabulary and flags of different countries.

 Another highlight of the French section was the display of some French cuisine where the children exhibited their culinary expertise on confectionery items like chocolate gateaux, choux pastry and French cookies.                                      

 The social studies section included topics such as regions of the world, river valley civilizations, the age of the Mughals, the setup of the Indian administrations and environmental - socio and economic impact of a river valley system. These were depicted in the form of charts and models. The various civilizations were presented through life size models. They had many eye-catching exhibits of the life style, culture, architectural wonders and other contributions to the world.

The Arts section displayed works touching upon various skills in drawing like sketching, painting, pencil shading, collage and paper batik done by students.

 On Wednesday, 1st November 2006, between 9.00 a.m. and 12.00 noon, the exhibition was witnessed by the Primary section students of the host school, as well as the students of some Omani Schools which included Darsait Basic Primary School, Darsait, Darhanan Al Manhal Private School, Wadi Kabir and Saidia School, Muscat.

 The students of the visiting Omani Schools were highly impressed with the various presentations. ‘Very good’, ‘Excellent’, ‘Outstanding’ were some of the many comments that truly reflected the interest they took in witnessing the exhibition.

The Chief Guest and all other visiting dignitaries, parents, and staff and students of all visiting Omani and Indian Schools were highly appreciative of the quality of the exhibits in particular and of the exhibition in general.
