30th Annual Athletic Meet and Drill Display

The Thirtieth Annual Athletic Meet and Drill Display of Indian School Muscat was held at the school grounds on Wednesday, 30th November. The team efforts of the four houses culminated in their ultimate bid for the Cock House Trophy for the academic year 2005 - 2006.

His Excellency, Ali Masoud Ali Al-Sunaidy, Minister of Sports Affairs, Sultanate of Oman was the Chief Guest, and declared the Meet open. Later, while addressing the students and the audience, the Chief Guest expressed his immense happiness at having the great privilege of attending such an impressive display. Individual champions in various categories also received their trophies at the function from His Excellency the Minister.

Vivek Wali, the IT Prodigy of Oman 2005 presented a token of esteem on behalf of the ISM community to the Chief Guest. Amba Jayaram, the Head Girl, welcomed the gathering.

The March Past, one of the highlights of the Sports Meet, then followed with its splendour, precision and coordination. K. E. Sundar Kousik, the Head Boy, led the March Past with the members of the Students' Council. They were followed by the four houses in their distinct colours led by the respective House Captains in the order of the previous year's positions. The School Band added splendour to the March Past.

Some of the most exciting athletic events in various categories were then held. A few of the participants had represented ISM at the National and the Gulf Zonal athletics. The cheers from the spectators added to the spurt of speed, which made the races really spectacular.

Indian School Darsait, Indian School Al Seeb, Indian School Al Wadi Al Kabir, Indian School Muladha and Indian School Al Ghubra participated in an exciting inter-school Medley Relay. The Relay teams of Indian School Muscat won the gold with a comfortable lead
The spectators were awed by the colourful drill pageantry of 1500 students from the Middle Section of the school with various accessories like lezium, hoops and saris. The performance received tumultuous applause from the huge crowd.

The Red House retained the most coveted Cock House Trophy. The House Master and the Captain received the Trophy with pride from the Guest of Honour Mr. Redha Bin Said Bin Mohammed Director of Community Schools at the Ministry of Education.

The show of pageantry, sound and colour was brought to a befitting end when the flag was brought down and handed over to the Sports Coordinators with the highest tradition of respect signifying the end of the sporting activities of the school for the year 2005.

While proposing the vote of thanks, the Head Boy thanked His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said for his benevolence on behalf of the community. He thanked His Excellency the Minister of Sports for gracing the event and his encouraging words. He also expressed his gratitude to Dr. Redha bin Said bin Mohammed, Director, Community Schools Office, the Muscat Municipality and the Royal Oman Police for their cooperation and assistance. He lauded the dedicated efforts of the members of the staff particularly the Physical Education Department, and the enthusiastic students in making the Meet a memorable one.
