PARENTS
HAVE A FIELD DAY

February saw ISM grounds resound with frolicking parents competing with
each other in Track & Field events. As part of the series of events to
commemorate the Pearl Anniversary of the school, Parent’s Day was
organized to showcase the hidden talents of parents who had been
‘spectators’ on most occasions. The programme gave the parents an
opportunity to express their solidarity with their children’s alma mater.
The Principal, Mr. Ainsley L Edgar, in his welcome speech thanked the
parents who had accepted the invitation and made it convenient to be
present in large numbers for the event. He said, “The day has been set
aside for parents specially. It is a day with a difference”, and he hoped
that they would have a great day as the school wanted to honour parents
and acknowledge their contributions.
As the saying goes ‘the early bird gets the worm’, Mr. Mehboob Ali Nassur,
the first to register in the morning was rewarded for his timely arrival
with the “Early Bird Prize. Dame luck shone on quite a few as their
numbers were picked up for the 200 odd prizes that were given out during
the course of the day as ‘Lucky Numbers’.
The focus then shifted to the centre of the field for the Musical Chairs
for the ladies and gents. The enthusiasm and excitement of the
participants was evident in their dash for chairs. The Preliminary round
of the Fun Quiz had almost 52 couples being tested on their knowledge of
Oman, India & ISM. The ‘quick witted’ six couples made it to the final
round later in the day and Mrs. & Mr. Waheed emerged victorious.
The field events of Shot Put & Tug of War were a show of brawn while the
track events of Three legged and Sack races had the agile and swift in the
lead. The games of Basket ball & Volley ball had the teams vying to show
off their dexterity.
“It’s commendable on the part of the school to give us parents a chance to
get back to the courts”, said a delighted parent after a stint in a game
of basket ball. The participants & organizers alike couldn’t stop their
smiles and whoops of delight through out the various events.
The programme rounded up with a sumptuous lunch for all who had
participated.
The parents had their day to frisk and gambol about on a school ground as
they travelled back on the road of nostalgia!!
