GOKULDAS KHIMJI AWARDS AND INTER-HOUSE DRAMA COMPETITION HELD AT ISM
The Annual Gokaldas
Khimji Academic Prize Distribution and eagerly awaited Inter-House Hindi
Drama Competition were held at Indian School Muscat on 5 October 2005.

The Gokuladas Khimji Merit Awards instituted by the Khimji family at the
Indian School Muscat has given our aspiring students a goal to reach. 31
outstanding academic achievers received Gold, Silver and Bronze medals as
well as cash awards on this occasion.
Mr. Pankaj Khimji, the Chief Guest presented the academic awards to the
recipients. Mr.S.Sridharan, the President and other members of the
Management Committee were also present. Mr. Pankaj Khimji and Mrs. Alka
Khimji were accorded a warm welcome by the Head Boy, Sundar Kaushik.
The Chief Guest in his address expressed his happiness at observing
students pass with flying colours. He added that he was pleased to note
the achievements of the students in the co-curricular activities also as
our education system is gearing up students to be more result oriented. He
reiterated that allround growth is important to life than just examination
results.
The Principal, Mr. Ainsley L. Edgar in his address expressed the gratitude
of the expatriate community to His Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and his
government for their support. He added that the Gokaldas Khimji awards
would hold the students in good stead in the future and would spur them
on, on to greater success. He further said that the school rededicates in
its 30th year to empowering the students to become proud adult citizens.
He highlighted the recent achievements of ISM students in academics,
sports and other co –curricular activities.
The Drama Competition, a closely contested and a much-awaited event in the
ISM calendar of events, had the four Houses vying with each other for top honours. The curtains were raised on the Red House play, ‘Jallad’, a play
that depicted the feelings of a guilt ridden judge on the sentences he had
handed out during his tenure. It was directed by Mr. Aklari Sajindran .
This drama won the trophy for the Best Play and the role of the Judge
enacted by Mohd.Abbas Naqvi won him the Best Actor award. It also won
Swati Prajapati, the award for the Best Supporting Actress.
The Blue House Play, ‘Parda Uthne Se Pehle’showcased the travails of a
Drama Director and was directed by Mr. Radhakrishnan, Mrs. Bindu and Mr.
D.S. Dwivedi. Anu Vishnu who played the role of the wife of the Director
bagged the award for the Best Actress and Naitik Parekh earned kudos for
his role by winning the Best Supporting Actor trophy.
The Green House put up a play that depicted the life a youngster in a
college. The play ‘Jago Yuva, Kal Tumhara Hai’ was directed by Mrs. Renee
Jetto. Prateek Mathur, who enacted the role of a father in this drama won
the trophy for the Best Supporting Actor trophy.
The last play of the evening was Yellow House’s ‘Bimari Ka Haj directed by
Mr. Satpal, depicted in a humourous vein the rather confusing scenario
created by political parties with vested interests in the name of
development.
The three judges for the drama competition are well known drama and social
personalities in Oman. Mr. Bhaskar Mitra, General Manager of the Moona
Noor group of companies, Mr. Ashok Suvarna, Executive Director, National
Publishing and Advertising and Mr. Amitabh Roy, Honorary Entertainment
Secretary of Cultural Affairs at the Indian Social Club were the judges
who faced the difficult task of deciding the winners.
Mementos were presented to the Judges as a tribute for their efforts by
the Defence Advisor of the Indian Embassy, Captain M V Suresh who also
gave away the prizes for the winners of the drama competition.
Nikita Jetto and Natasha Gopinath compered the programme under the
guidance of Mrs. Catherine Philip. The programme ended with a vote of
thanks by the Head Girl, Amba Jayaram and the curtains came down on yet
another evening showcasing the talents of the students and teachers of
ISM.
