‘Jhankaar Spectrum
2008’
- event of school competitions was held in Indian School
Muscat on Wednesday and Thursday, 15th and 16th
of October, 2008 in the school premises from 8 am to 8
pm in a highly charged and lively environment. This
constructive approach was aimed at bringing
transformation in students with a powerful catalytic
imagination as well as a guaranteed recognition and
possibly towards greater academic and co-curricular joy
of showcasing their inherent talents.
The two-day inter-school scholastic and cultural talent meet
was inaugurated by His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa,
Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman on
Wednesday 15th October 2008 at 8.30 a.m. in
the new Multi-purpose Hall.
Almost 1000 students from 11 Indian Schools in the Sultanate
of Oman and students from Indian High School Dubai
exhibited their talents and confidence in 42 scholastic
and co-curricular areas of talent exhibition. The
participating schools included Indian School Al Wadi Al
Kabir, Indian School Muladha, Indian School Al Ghubra,
Indian School Darsait, Indian School Nizwa, Indian
School Ibri, Indian School Sur, Indian School Ibra,
Indian School Al Seeb, Indian School Sohar, Indian High
School Dubai and the host school, Indian School Muscat.
There were 42 talent events in all, English and Hindi
literary world such as speak your mind, digital
symposium, spell bee, mono act, pen your thoughts,
poetry recitation, extempore in English world of art and
photography, digital world of C++, software solutions,
web designing and animation, science talk, math – fun
and creativity, world of knowledge quiz, master mind
quests in Math, Physics, Chemistry, Biology and
Bio-technology. Co-curricular events included rhythm
dance, group dance, solo vocal, traditional folk dance,
free style western dance, pencil sketching, photo shoot,
poster making, animation and visual effects, junior
knowledge quiz and presentations.
Also included were Mathematics, Social Science
and General Science competitions to encourage the
students of junior classes scholastically and challenge
their great counterparts.
The first three winners in each of the 42 events were
honoured with individual trophies and certificates.
Consolation prizes were also awarded to the
fourth position. Nearly 1000 participants were awarded
certificates of recognition. The first, second and third
prizes were correspondingly awarded 5 points, 3 points
and 1 point respectively to the schools they belonged.
Eminent, professional and impartial judges from Ministry of
Education, PDO, Imtac, Higher College of Technology,
exponents from musical and dance schools, critics from
news media, IT professionals from the industries and
subject experts from various other institutions were
invited as judges to adjudicate the events.
At the end of two days of buzzing activities, the host school
ISM scored maximum points of 154, followed by Indian
School Al Ghubra with 69 points, Indian School Sohar
with 43 points, Indian School Muladha with 29 points,
Indian School Darsait with 28 points, Indian School Al
Wadi Al Kabir with 13 points, Indian High School Dubai
with 9 points and Indian Schol Nizwa with 5 points in
the Senior Category.
The overall championship rolling trophy in the Senior
Category was awarded to Indian School Al Ghubra as the
host school, ISM did not compete for the overall
championship trophy and it was customary on the part of
ISM to award the trophy to the next leading school, that
is Indian School Al Ghubra. In the Junior Category,
Indian School Al Seeb scored the maximum points (43) and
hence received the overall championship.
As promised, the rolling trophies for the winning schools
were given on Friday, 17th October, 2008
during the ‘Fulfilling Dreams’ – a great charity show in aid of children
touched by cancer at the Sultan Qaboos University
hospital coinciding with the popular rock band show
PARIKRAMA which was performed live at the magnificent
Qurum City Amphitheatre. His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa,
Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman graced the
mega event and awarded the overall Championship trophies
to Mrs. Papri Ghosh, Principal, Indian School Al Ghubra
and Mr. T. Premkumar, Principal, Indian School Al Seeb
amidst roaring cheers from a large vibrant audience.

left an everlasting impact on each and every one who
took active participation in it. The host school
provided all encouragement and support to all the
participating schools. The hardworking and dynamic staff
and students of ISM with the
Organizing Secretary Mr. Nagesh Kelkar made all the
arrangements systematically for the success of the
glorious event. The guests were given a friendly and
generous reception and entertainment. The participants,
their accompanying teachers, guests and the teachers and
students of ISM returned with a sense of achievement,
joy of talent show and sharing of knowledge.
