Workshop on “Classroom Management”
The Indian School Muscat organized
a workshop on “Classroom Management” for the
teachers of the Primary and Middle Sections, on the 21st
October 2009.
Dr. (Mrs) Minakshiben Kanaiyalal Bhatt from Anand,
Gujarat
was the resource person.
Dr.Mrs. Minakshiben is an M.A, M.Ed with a
Doctorate in Education. In 1961, she was honored with
the Sahitya Ratna Award for Hindi Literature.
Though retired from her active teaching services,
Dr. (Mrs). Minakshiben continues to serve the
Educational sector with her inspiring Lectures and talks
and conducting Seminars for the Teachers in various
Institutions.
In this Seminar on
“Class Room Behaviour”, she mainly dealt with the
ten categories observed by the eminent authority on
communication in, Ned
Flander, in any normal classroom situation.
The ten categories were explained in a very lucid
style, using a demonstration of an actual classroom
situation, with some of the teacher participants
enacting as students and she herself doing the
Teacher’s Role.
Ned Flander believes
that a student’s morale can be boosted by “Timely
praise and Encouragement”, “Acceptance of their
Feelings and Thoughts” and “Initiating the spark
of Questioning”
in them. According
to Ned Flander, the
surest way to demoralize a student would be by
criticism and constant lecturing by the teacher in the
classroom. Dr.
(Mrs.) Minakshiben explained how, through these ten
categories, a teacher can be effective and inspiring in
their classrooms.
The workshop highlighted on how a teacher,
combining professionalism with compassion, can truly
affect a student in eternity.
Though the concepts touched were of a serious
nature, they were very easily handled by
Dr.Mrs.Minakshiben in a very humorous way.
The workshop proved to be highly informative and
the teachers were very impressed.
All teachers felt
enlightened on classroom behaviour techniques and find
ways to communicate with our children.
