CELEBRATES 35 YEARS OF ‘EDUCATING FOR EXCELLENCE’
Indian
School Muscat (ISM) celebrated its 35th
Annual Day on Thursday, 18 February 2010 in the Multi
Purpose Hall with an impressive display of multitude of
musical talents and dancing skills, enthralling the
audience present that day. The event stood as mute
testimony of the School’s credo ‘Educating for
Excellence’, all these years, almost three and half
decades of its existence.
His
Excellency Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Harthy, Minister of
Civil Services, Sultanate of Oman, graced the occasion
as the Chief Guest. Mr. M.C. Sharma, Controller of
Examinations, CBSE,
New Delhi
, was the guest of honour. Members of the Board of
Directors of the Indian Schools in the Sultanate, the
President and members of the Indian School Muscat
Managing Committee, Principals of other Indian Schools
in the city, invited dignitaries, proud parents,
awardees and students attended the celebrations.
Both
the Guests were accorded a red carpet welcome and a
guard of honour by the Bharat Scouts and Guides of ISM.
A well decorated lamp was lit to start the solemn
occasion, signifying the removal of darkness through
wisdom and knowledge. They were presented with flower
bouquets by the members of the student council.
The
School’s orchestra played the National Anthems of both
Oman
and
India
, giving a respectful start to the function. The
invocation dance “Moksha” sought peace and
tranquillity to prevail all around. Boys’ Dean Gaurav
Honavar welcomed the august gathering.
The
School Junior Choir gave a rendition of ‘Ham
Panchhi Azad Gangan ke’, meaning the bliss of
freedom enjoyed by these small children. The dance that
followed of the Kindergarten children stole the show
beyond any compare. A well choreographed dance by 80
tiny tots to an Arabic song was thunderously applauded
by one and all.
After
few more songs and dances, the Principal, Mr. Achuthan
Madhav gave his annual report when the
distinguished academic achievements of our students were
highlighted. He also gave a brief summary of the best
happenings in the current year, when many students
excelled in the fields of sports, extra curricular
activities and so on.
Principal
Mr. Achuthan Madhav, highlighted the achievements of the
school in academics, sports and co-curricular activities
during the academic year 2009-2010. He congratulated all
the awardees for their meritorious achievements in
bringing laurels to their alma mater. The Principal
lauded the highly motivated staff for their dedicated
service, and thanked the school Managing Committee for
their unstinted support in the all round development of
students.
Mr.
S. Subramanian, President of the Indian School Muscat
Managing Committee, expressed his gratitude to His
Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and his government for
their magnanimity toward the Indian community in the
Sultanate. He also appreciated the Principal and the
staff for keeping the ISM flag flying high. The
President also congratulated the academic awardees for
their outstanding results, their supportive teachers and
parents for bringing glory to the school.
Shreyas
V. Nair and Aayish Shetty were honoured and felicitated
for securing 96.4%, the first position from Indian
School Muscat in class X CBSE exams. Shreyas also
received awards for being 0.1% topper in French,
Mathematics and Social Science. Aayish received awards
for the same category in French and Social Science.
Anindita Menon with 96.2% was felicitated for securing
the second position in the class X CBSE exams and for
being 0.1% topper in French, Mathematics and Science.
Abhilash S. and Janani Ramakrishnan shared the third
position in class X examination by securing 95.8%. There
were 28 students who were entitled for 0.1% topper
awards in various subjects.
Students
who secured the first three positions in Science,
Commerce and Humanities streams in Class XII CBSE
examinations were also felicitated on the occasion. In
the Science stream Anant Mathur came in the first
position by securing 95%, followed by Akshaya Mahesh and
Noopur V. Joshi with 94.4% and 94.2% respectively. In
the Commerce stream Riddhima Khanna secured the first
position (94.6%), Sheeba Thomas and Pooja T. Ashok
shared the second position (90.4%) and Christina Ann
Lobo was in the third position with (90.2%). The
following were the awardees from the Humanities stream:
Sowmya Vijayan (90.2%), Tanya Nicole Fernandes (88.4%)
and Mahek Verma (88.2%).
These
awards were presented by His Excellency Mohammed Bin
Abdullah Al Harthy and Mr. M.C. Sharma, on two
occasions.
The
school also gave special awards to Aditya Kurian and
Nikita Benson for leading the Students’ Council of
2008-2009 in their positions as Deans for boys and girls
respectively. Aditya Kurian was also felicitated for
being adjudged as the Senior All Rounder and also for
the Best Sports Personality of 2009. Sowmya Vijayan was
given an award for being the Best All Rounder among
girls, while Disha Amin bagged the award for being the
best girl sports personality of 2009.
From
this year onwards, these special awards for the students
passing out in April this year were also presented the
same year, so that these awardees can receive their
prizes in person. Gaurav V. Honavar and Anjana Nanda
were felicitated for their contribution to the school
community as Boys’ Dean and Girls’ Dean
respectively. Best sports personalities for the year
2010 were accorded to Jatinder Singh and Susan Sam
Varghese in the boys and girls categories respectively.
Sai
Pranathi and Lakshmi Subramanian shared the title of
best all rounder among girls for the year 2010. Pranav
Laxmanan was adjudged the best all rounder among boys
and he also received the Principal’s Appreciation
Award for scoring 2400/2400 in the SAT examination
conducted during the year, a rare feat accomplished by
very few students.
Malvika
Raju, Krushika Uday Patankar and Chinmoi Nathan were
given special Awards for winning bronze medal in the
CBSE Senior Girls National Tennis Championship held at
Chennai. Subhrajit Goshal received the special award for
his rare works of art and masterpieces of eminent
personalities. The Principal’s Appreciation Award was
given to Araj Mohandas for securing admission in
Harvard University
,
U.S.A.
and Tejaswi Hegde for her excellent dance performances
in the school programmes during the academic year.
Mementos
were presented to members of the staff who had completed
ten, twenty, twenty-five and thirty years of dedicated
service to the school and the staff who had secured 100%
attendance for three consecutive academic years. The
former members of the school Managing Committee were
also felicitated at the ceremony.

Mohammed Bin Abdullah Al Harthy in his address expressed
his immense happiness of presiding over the function
this evening. He was appreciative of the role played by
the Indian community in the development and prosperity
of the Sultanate of Oman. He congratulated the proud
achievers and prize winners and their parents for
grooming such nice children. He wished the School
Management every best in their future endeavours.
The
guest of honour Mr. M.C. Sharma expressed his gratitude
at the warm reception given to him by the school. He
also paid rich tributes to the school Managing
Committee, the school staff and the students for their
excellent achievements.
The
President and the Principal presented mementos to the
Chief Guests, as a token of appreciation and gratitude.
Anjana
Nanda, Girls’ Dean brought the splendid evening to a
close with the vote of thanks which was followed by the
National Anthem.
