ISM HONOURS ITS STUDENTS EXCELLED IN
ACADEMICS
The
meritorious students of Indian School Muscat (ISM), who
have excelled in Academics, were presented the Annual
Academic Awards at a ceremonious function held on
Thursday 23rd April, 2009 in the school’s
multipurpose hall. This function is the first event of
the new Academic Calendar, when a record number of 362
students received the awards from the esteemed Chief
Guest, His Excellency Dr. Hamed Said Al Oufi, Under
Secretary in the Ministry of Fisheries Wealth, Sultanate
of Oman. Members of the Board of Directors of the Indian
Schools in the Sultanate, the President and members of
the Indian School Muscat Managing Committee, Principals
of other Indian Schools in the city, invitees, staff,
awardees students and their proud parents attended the
function.
The prestigious Academic Award is given annually
to honor the meritorious students of Classes V to IX and
XI in recognition of their excellent efforts through out
the year. 313 students from Middle Section (Class 5th
to 8th) and 49 students from Senior Section
(Class 9th and 11th) were awarded
this year. The awardees were selected based on the
various criterion of percentile marks prescribed for
each class.
A
red carpet reception and a guard of honor were accorded
to the Chief Guest who inaugurated the function by
lighting the traditional lamp. A bouquet of flowers was
presented to him by the Girl’s Dean, Ms. Anjana Nanda,
who also welcomed the invitees and the guests to this
momentous function.
The programme consisted of a medley of songs and
dances enthralling the appreciative audience. The
students, who performed, were trained and coordinated by
various teachers of the School. The songs were set to
melodious tunes and the dances catered for the various
segments like classical, contemporary and western
styles. The highlight of the evening was a foot tapping
Arabic song by girls dressed in Omani costume, supported
by the school’s orchestra.
The
Principal, Mr. Achuthan Madhav, in his address brought
out the recent accolades of the students in the various
competitions and the outstanding academic
accomplishments. He also congratulated all the
outstanding achievers and their proud parents for
bringing laurels to their alma mater. He also lauded the
highly motivated staff for their dedicated service and
thanked the school Managing Committee for its unstinted
support in the all round development of students. He
sincerely hoped that the awardees keep up the position
and continue to work for academic excellence at all
times and emulate the brilliant academic achievements of
the chief guest.
After
honoring the diligent awardees, the Chief Guest, His
Excellency Dr. Hamed Said Al Oufi expressed his immense
happiness at the warm reception given to him by the
school. He congratulated all the award winners and their
supportive parents. He also expressed his best wishes to
all the students and the school for its academic
approach to its students.
Saatvik
Sharma, Coordinator for the Co-curricular Activities in
the Students’ Council brought the splendid evening to
a close with the vote of thanks.
