ISM CELEBRATES 34TH
ANNUAL DAY
Indian
School Muscat (ISM) celebrated its 34th
Annual Day on Saturday, 31st January, 2009 in
the school multipurpose hall with an impressive
spectacle of musical and theatrical talents of the
students.
His
Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa, Ambassador of India to the
Sultanate of Oman graced the occasion as the Chief
Guest. Members of the Board of Directors of the Indian
Schools in the Sultanate, the President and members of
the Indian School Muscat Managing Committee, Principals
of other
Indian
Schools
, invitees, students and their parents attended the
function in large numbers. His Excellency, the
Ambassador, was given a warm welcome by the members of
the Students Council and Master Aditya Kurian, the
Boys’ Dean welcomed the distinguished gathering.
Mr.
S. Subramanian, President of the Indian School Muscat
Managing Committee, expressed his gratitude to His
Majesty Sultan Qaboos Bin Said and his government for
their magnanimity towards the Indian community in the
Sultanate. He congratulated the outstanding students,
their supportive teachers and parents for bringing glory
to the school. He also appreciated the Principal and the
staff for keeping the ISM flag flying high.
His
Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa presented prizes to 92
students for their meritorious achievements
in academics, sports and co-curricular activities. These
students excelled in the CBSE examinations held in March
2008 and brought fame and recognition to school during
the year in various fields.
Sruthi
Viswanathuni was honored by Mr. M.C. Sebastian, Chairman
of CBSE Affiliated Schools in the Gulf with a 8 gm gold
coin as she topped in the Gulf with 96.6% at the CBSE
exams last year.
Mementoes
were presented to members of the staff who had completed
ten, twenty, twenty five and thirty years of dedicated
service to the school. The former members of the school
Managing Committee were also felicitated at the ceremony
for their valuable contribution to this institution. The
Chief Guest presented 200 books in Hindi and English to
the school library on this occasion.
The
school Students’ Council handed over a contributory
cheque for RO 5000/- to His Excellency towards the
Embassy of India Community Welfare Fund. While
addressing the gathering, the Chief Guest expressed his
immense happiness at the warm reception given to him by
the school. He also paid rich accolade to the school
Managing Committee, the school staff and the students
for their spectacular achievements in the CBSE exams,
underlining that ISM always stood for excellence in
academics. The
Ambassador requested the teachers and the parents to
inculcate moral values and self-discipline in students
for their success in life. He also advised the students
to develop the reading habit and sincerity for hard
work.
The
President and the school Principal presented a memento
to the Chief Guest as a token of appreciation.
The
Principal, Mr. Achuthan Madhav, in his Annual Report,
highlighted the achievements of the school in academics,
sports and co-curricular activities during the academic
year 2008–2009, and congratulated all the meritorious
students especially those 17 who secured 100% in
Mathematics and Social Science and all top 0.1% CBSE
merit awardees for bringing laurels to their alma mater.
The Principal lauded the highly motivated staff for
their dedicated service, and thanked the school Managing
Committee for their unstinted support in the all round
development of the students.
The
cultural and musical programmes enthralled the guests in
large numbers. The evening programme began with a
welcome song by 95 students of class IV from the Primary
choir, followed by an action song presented by 90
students from Classes III and IV, conveying ‘success
can be achieved only through grit, determination and
hard work’. Seven students from the Middle and Senior
Sections of the school presented a contemporary dance in
perfect unison to the beat of the musical instruments.
Seventy
little princes and princesses of Kindergarten expressed
their joy and happiness by dancing to the popular and
rejuvenating song ‘
Brazil
’. The tiny tots danced in abundant joy embodying
their innocence and gaiety.
‘Shades
of Rhythm’, a thought-provoking dance drama on Nature
and her bountiful gifts, was performed by 100 students
from the school conveyed the wonderful message – the
repercussions of misusing nature’s resources and the
need for good sense to preserve nature - through a
timeless language of music and dance. The school
orchestra comprising thirty-two students from the Middle
and Senior Sections, kept the audience enchanted with
their foot-tapping numbers.
Nikita
Benson, Girls’ Dean brought the splendid evening to a
close with the vote of thanks followed by the National
Anthem.
