EMERGE CHAMPIONS AT SPORTS FEST 2008
Indian
School Muscat organized a two day spectacular Sports
Fiesta with teams from
Oman
,
Dubai
, Sharjah and
India
, participating in Table Tennis, Basketball, Football
and Cricket.
Indian
School Muscat (ISM) emerged overall champions for the
third consecutive year in the two-day Sports fest, which
was organised on Thursday 13th and Friday 14th
November, 2008. Over 350 students from eight Indian
schools – Indian School Muscat, Indian School Darsait,
Indian School Al Ghubra, Indian School Al Seeb, Indian
School Sohar, the Indian High School Dubai, Delhi
Private School Sharjah and
Yugantar
Public School
,
Chattisgharh
,
India
– vied for the top position in basketball, football,
cricket and table tennis.
In
the table tennis events, Indian School Muscat clinched
the Under-14 boys and girls’ crowns while Delhi
Private School Sharjah were runners up. Indian School
Muscat also won the Under-16 boys and girls’ titles
beating Indian High School Dubai. However, in the
Under-19 boys and girls’ categories, Indian High
School Dubai secured the titles after beating Delhi
Private School Sharjah.
In
the nine-a-side cricket, Indian School Muscat notched a
scintillating win over Indian School Darsait. Indian
School Muscat also bagged the football championship
trophy defeating Indian High School Dubai. In
basketball, Delhi Private School Sharjah boys beat
Indian School Muscat and Delhi Private School Sharjah
girls clinched the title beating Indian High School
Dubai.
The
trophies and certificates were awarded to the runners-up
and the winners amidst loud cheer at a closing ceremony
on Friday, 14th November, 2008 at the ISM
multipurpose hall by Mr. Mathew Abraham, Educational
Advisor, Board of Directors,
Indian
Schools
in the Sultanate of Oman. Earlier, Aditya
Kurian, Boys’ Dean gave a warm reception to Mr. Mathew
Abraham by presenting him with a bouquet. While
addressing the future sports icons and the gathering,
the chief guest complimented the Indian School
Muscat’s Physical Education Department headed by Mr.
R.S. Pathyarch for organising the events in an excellent
manner. He also congratulated all the prize winners and
the participants for the intense competition they had
exhibited.
The
audience were entertained by the Indian School Muscat
band comprising Duane Frank, Dennis Jimmy, Artrum Ghani
and Aritra with a string of rock music from Matalica.
The participants and their accompanying Physical
Education HOD and teachers
were very happy about the hospitality of the host
school, and this made the two-day annual event a
memorable one. All
teams received the prizes and subsequently had a
photograph with the Chief Guest.
