ISM HOLDS ANNUAL ATHLETIC MEET 

   AND DRILL DISPLAY

 

The Thirty-fourth Annual Athletic Meet and Drill Display of Indian School Muscat was held in usual pomp and glory at the school grounds on 19th November 2009. The team efforts of the four houses culminated in presentation of honors to the “Cock House”, being the Champion House for the Academic year 2009-10. 

Mr. Brahma Kumar, Second Secretary at the Embassy of India, Sultanate of Oman, was the Chief Guest. A bouquet of flowers was presented to him by Malvika Raju and Krushika Patankar, the proud winners of Tennis Team, which won bronze at the CBSE National Tennis Championship. Gaurav Honavar, the Boys’ Dean, welcomed the gathering.  

The March Past, the most colorful and exuberant event, was led by Gaurav Honavar, the Boys’ Dean, Anjana Nanda, the Girls’ Dean, and the Student Council.  They were followed by the four houses in their distinct colors, competing to covet the Best Marching Contingent trophy. The School Band comprising 42 students, led by Stephanie Sam and Tania Robinson, played various marching tunes and added splendor to the March Past.  

Sabahat Khan, the Sports Coordinator, took the oath on behalf of all athletes.  

The finals of various exciting athletic events in various categories were then held. Some of the participants had represented ISM at the National and the Gulf Zonal athletics meets earlier.  The winners were awarded the medals by the Chief Guest.  

The spectators were awed by the delightful drill display of over 600 students of class VI, as they performed with the dumbbells to the perfect rhythmic beats. 225 girl students of Class IX danced to the musical score of popular “Jai Ho” number, which received spontaneous ovation from the crowd.  

Samantha Pinto (Sub-Junior Girs), Mohammed Ajmal Roshan (Sub-Junior Boys), Pranati S. Bargi (Junior Girls), Zulqurnam Ahmed (Junior Boys), Shorya Bist (Intermediate Girls), Rolton Coelho (Intermediate Boys), Aishwarya Ravi (Pre-Senior Girls), Surjeervan K. and Darsan Babu (Pre-Senior Boys), Sabahat Khan (Senior Girls) and Troyes Dique (Senior Boys) were declared as the Individual Champions in their respective group and awarded prestigious cup trophies.  

Yellow and Blue Houses shared the March Past trophy.  

The Green House were the proud winners of both the Athletic Championship and the most coveted “Cock House” Trophies. When the Green House Captain Sun Hao was presented these trophies, the whole Green House went into rupture and victory lap around the ground.

 The event was compered by Nishigandha Kelkar, Aswathy Menon, Joshua Michael and Mohammed Abdul Mateen Salar ably assisted by Mr. Deep Wilson, Mr. Mathew Joseph, Mrs. Sashikala Ravikumar and Mrs. C P Leela.  

The ceremonious close of the Annual Sports and Drill Display for the academic year 2009 – 2010 was witnessed by a large gathering in the novel form of handing over the School Flag to the Principal by the four house captains.  

The Girl’s Dean, Anjana Nanda, proposed the vote of thanks and the curtains were drawn on the year long events of various houses.
