INDEPENDENCE
DAY
Indian
School Muscat (ISM) family with a large number of Indian
Diaspora celebrated
India
’s 65th Independence Day with patriotic
fervour on Monday, 15th August 2011 on the
school premises. The Indian Tricolour was unfurled by
the Chief Guest, Dr. Avirat Vaishnav, President of the
school managing committee in the presence of
dignitaries, teachers and students.
Prominent members of the Indian Community,
members of the school managing committee and parents
were among the special invitees. The School Band played
the National Anthem and a few other lilting patriotic
tunes throughout the programme. The ISM ground was
tastefully decorated with festoons, murals and portraits
of Indian freedom fighters.
Dr.
Avirat Vaishnav welcomed the gathering to celebrate the
exotic moment of
India
. The students from all the three sections of the school
presented a garland of unforgettable patriotic songs and
colourful folk dances. The patriotic songs were
presented with Harmonium, Tabla, Ghattam, Violin, Guitar
and the Keyboard as accompaniments. Enthusiastic young
voices, filled with love for the country swelled in the
air. The songs, melodious in their tunes and
nationalistic in their themes reverberated in the school
hall and echoed in every heart. The cultural
entertainment included the most popular folk dance of
Bengal
and the vande mataram dance. The performers dressed in
the traditional Indian sari danced together in lines and
circles. Drums and pipes accompanied the vocal song. The
finesse and vigour of the performers reminded the
audience of
India
’s rich cultural heritage. The day’s programme left
every Indian heart coated with patriotism, gaiety and
enthusiasm.
Thus,
though miles away, the Indian community in
Muscat
saluted their motherland and paid homage to the freedom
fighters in a befitting manner.
