ISM BIDS ADIEU TO AMBASSADOR OF INDIA

 There are times when great opportunities come our way. The teachers and students of Indian School Muscat got such an opportunity on 13/08/2011 to bid farewell to a luminary and great personality of International stature, a charismatic Indian diplomat who is a perfect role model to the present generation. The students and teachers of the Indian School Muscat had a rare opportunity to interact with His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa, Indian Ambassador of India to the Sultanate of Oman on 13th August 2011 in the School multipurpose hall. The chief guest was given a warm welcome with a standing ovation. Krithika Srinivasan, Girls’ Dean presented a bouquet of flowers to the chief guest. The morning assembly began with a prayer song sung by the school Hindi choir.  

Dr. Avirat Vaishnav, President of the school managing committee welcomed the Chief Guest. In his brief address, the president informed the gathering about the history of Indian Embassy since its inception and highlighted the achievements of His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa. Sandra Johnson, Coordinator of Sports presented a string of laudable achievements of the outgoing ambassador of India to the Indian Diaspora in Oman and his great contributions in strengthening Indo-Oman relationship. She also highlighted His Excellency’s support to Indian School Muscat in maintaining its standard of education that is being imparted to the Indian community in the Sultanate. It was followed by a video presentation of His Excellency’s visits to ISM on various important occasions.  

In his key note address to the students, His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa said that he was ‘highly privileged to be in ISM and expressed his gratitude to the ISM family for the heartwarming reception. While addressing the staff and the students of the senior section of the school, His Excellency lauded ISM’s excellent creativity, performances and achievements of its students. The Ambassador commended the school management for the innumerable opportunities provided to expose and utilize the hidden talents and skills of the students in different fields. The chief guest advised the students to actively participate in all activities organized by the school, which would provide them confidence for their social and professional life.  

Later, His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa interacted with the students by enthusiastically answering their probing questions. When he was asked if  his student days at St. Stephen’s College motivated him to take up Foreign Service, he answered in affirmative and recalled those pleasant days. When a student asked His Excellency how far he was able to synergize between India and Oman , the chief guest replied with a sense of satisfaction by underlining various visits by the Ministers of both the countries, the joint investment fund that has been launched and the identification of areas that both the countries could work together. He also stated with confidence, 'The future of India and the Sultanate of Oman is very bright.'  

The student representatives of Primary, Middle and Senior sections of the school presented beautiful gratitude cards and the school student council presented a wonderful painting, and the fine art students presented their favourite Ambassador with an amazing sculpture.  

A string of colourful cultural programmes were presented to entertain the outgoing Ambassador of India. The odissi performers danced with a lot of zeal and enthusiasm. They danced in perfect union to the beat of the musical instruments. The school choirs and the band greatly entertained the audience.  

At the end, Mr. Deep Wilson, Asst Vice-Principal for Academics in the senior section proposed the vote of thanks. In his address, Mr. Wilson recalled the Ambassador’s message to the students and admired the chief guest’s administrative skills.

 The students and teachers of Indian School Muscat were in a complete state of euphoria for having had a lively interaction with their much loved leader. His Excellency Shri Anil Wadhwa’s words of wisdom will not only inspire children but will also go a long way to bring a complete transformation in them.
