PARENTS FLOCK TO
CAREER FAIR AT ISM
Indian School Muscat held its annual career
fair on Wednesday, 30th November and
Thursday, 1st December 2011. The two-day
career fair was inaugurated by the chief guest Dr.
Sana Sabeel Al Balushi, Director General, National
Career Guidance Center, Ministry of Education,
Sultanate of Oman, at a function organised in the
New Multipurpose Hall of the School in the presence
of a high level delegation of directors and heads of
different departments from the National Career
Guidance Center. Principal,
Mr. Achuthan Madhav, the vice principal of the
senior section of the school, Mr.
Sunny Thomas, a large number of students,
their parents and teachers attended the
inauguration. Arun
Philips, Assistant Head Boy and Nishigandha Kelkar,
Assistant Head Girl of the school presented a
bouquet of flowers to the chief Guest, Dr Sana
Sabeel Al Balushi .
The
Principal in his welcome address spoke that the main
objective of the two day career fair organised at
ISM every year is to provide a window of awareness
on the world of opportunities available to the
senior students beyond their schooling. He said that
prospective students with the active support of
their parents could have
face to face interaction with officials of various
universities and professional colleges, seeking to
draw out an action plan on their transition to
colleges. He urged the students to gather as much
information and resources suited to their aptitude,
preferred nations, Universities and crystallise on
selecting the best option. He lauded and thanked the
members of the counselling department and the senior
Vice principal for their sincere and dedicated
efforts in organising the career fair.
Dr.
Sana Sabeel Al Balushi, in her inaugural address
appreciated the initiative of the school in
promoting the importance of providing career
guidance to its students. She said that establishing
high quality career guidance and counselling
programmes was extremely important in any
well-functioning and effective school system. She
expressed her immense happiness to see the
government and community schools working together.
Dr. Sana also expressed her desire to expand and
establish successful career guidance programmes in
the sultanate.
Ms.
Tanuja Sharma and Dr. Benny Varghese, members of the
school counselling centre made an informative
presentation on the importance of career guidance,
fairs and various careers possible through different
streams of education, and prospects for the students
of Science, Commerce and Humanities. They also
highlighted the objectives of organising career fair
in Indian School Muscat and the role of parents in
choosing the right career options for their
children.
Mr.
V. Prashob and Mrs. Bubly Vinoy emphasised on the
entrance examinations, NRI and other quotas for
admissions in
India
, requirements for International Undergraduate
admissions in US,
Canada
,
UK
,
Singapore
and
Australia
. They also briefed the students and the parents
about the lay out and the names of the participating
universities in the fair.
Representatives
from thirty highly reputed national and
international universities and educational
institutions participated in the career fair 2011.

section and their parents.
About
1200 parent visitors of ISM and other schools had
the opportunity of getting extensive information
about various professional career options provided
by the leading universities and colleges in
Oman
,
India
and Overseas. The Convener
of the school Mr S. K. Rao and the academic member
Mr Aftab Kola visited the stalls of reputed
institutions and universities and appreciated the
efforts of the school in its services to the parent
community. The ISM career fair was successfully
concluded at
2.30 pm on Thursday.
