Physical Education

Physical Education, an integral part of the educational process has its importance at the Indian School Muscat for boys and girls of all age categories. Physical activities in groups are a very natural way of exercising which allows the individual's growth and development. Keeping in mind are certain aims; promotion of health, development of basic process, worthy home membership, vocation, citizenship, proper use leisure and moral character. The above-mentioned aims give way to certain objectives such as, physical, psychological, social, moral developments and improvement in knowledge.
The department takes care of the Primary (Kindergarten to class IV), Middle (Classes V to VIII) and the Senior (Classes IX to XII) classes.

House System
The students of classes V to XII are divided into four house teams Blue House, Green House, Red House and Yellow House for various intramural activities of the school. Each House team is taken care of by well-experienced House Masters along with a group of teachers selected from different departments who help and guide the students and work as a team. The respective houses coordinate with their house members and ensure a smooth functioning in all co-curricular and extra curricular activities. The spirit of competence and ambition give rise to each house vying for the prestigious cock house trophy, which is bestowed upon the winner on the Annual Sports Day.

Games
The various games prevalent in the school are Badminton, Table Tennis, Chess as indoor games, and Basketball, Cricket, Football, Volleyball, Kho Kho as out door games.

Track & Field Athletics
Track & Field Athletics is a surpassing feature in the field of Physical Education. It enables the participants to display their skill and brawn in the various events in it.

Team Sports
This edition of team sporting events comprises of special coaching in the evenings for games such as Badminton, Basketball, Cricket, Football, Table Tennis and Track & Field athletics.

Annual Sports Day
This is the long awaited event of the year where preceded athletic events are scheduled for a week before the Annual Sports Day. A few athletic events are on the agenda for the main day. The enthusiastic young aspirants perform a series of kaleidoscopic drills. The Primary section has their sports days separately. The Middle & Senior sections of the school conduct an Inter House athletic meet on a scheduled day, where finals of few selected athletic events and Drill displays are organized.

Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) Competitive Sports
The sports events are awe-inspiring for the young sports men and women. The respective schools from the various chapters (Oman) select the best teams for an inter school competition and selected best athletes are sent to the Council of CBSE Schools in the Gulf for Zonal Meets. The end result of this competitive selection paves a way for the cream in the sports world to exhibit their sportive skills at the All India CBSE sports meetings.
As the old saying goes, 'a sound mind in a sound body', the present day man has to face a greater threat to his life due to the advancement of science and technology which is the inevitable source of pollution in our environment; thus maintenance of health has become a problem. Moreover, the push button style of our living has reduced our physical effort, which initiates several health problems. Thus promotion of Physical Education has become a necessity to present man to ensure him a healthy body that results in possessing a sound mind.
